Watersport Activities for Pontoons

Pontoon Watersports Activities Article from Riva Motorsports and Marine of the Keys

It’s hard to imagine a water activity that pontoons can’t do. These unique boats can engage in a number of watersport options for the whole family. Discover all that pontoons can do below! If you want to check out new and used pontoons, visit Riva Motorsports and Marine of The Keys in the Florida Keys.

Tubing

Tubing is a fun activity for all ages with kids as young as four able to safely ride them. They can be single seaters or hold multiple passengers at once. There are even lounging styles that let you lay reclined for ultimate relaxation. Many are made of canvas or nylon covers that allow you to skim the water at high speeds. Whether you want to putt along at low speeds or speed over waves, pontoons let you create a fun tubing experience.

Kneeboarding

Kneeboarding is a great entry-level watersport. Compared to wakeboarding, it is easier to learn and uses cheaper equipment. Kneeboarding involves kneeling down onto a board and holding onto the tow rope. The pontoons will need to reach between 15 and 25 miles per hour for the rider to easily stay upright. The rider can get some air by riding the wake or enjoy a nice smooth cruise.

Waterskiing

There are several types of waterskiing activities to enjoy. There is the standard two ski option, which is the most common choice. You probably see many skiers of this type out on the water. This choice is the easiest to learn. Even little kids can try their hand at it.

Then there is slalom skiing. Here riders only use one board - a water activity version of snowboarding. This style is more physically demanding, but it allows you to carve deeper into the water.

For a real extreme version of skiing, there is barefoot skiing. With this style, there are no boards used. Instead, riders skim the surface of the water with their feet. The boat will need to travel at a higher speed than traditional skiing to keep the rider stable. This type of skiing is the toughest, but it does provide you with great bragging rights.

Each of these types of skiing requires core strength and balance. But many people of all ages can try their hand at this activity. Whatever type of skiing your passengers want to try, pontoons can be used as a tow vehicle.

Wakeboarding

Wakeboarding is a combination of waterskiing, snowboarding, and surfing. It requires a boat heavy enough to create a wake with the ability to go fast enough to keep the rider afloat. Wakeboarding is physically demanding and requires equipment. While this sport is harder, it does provide great adrenaline rushes and lends itself well for tricks and jumps. Wakeboarding is a fun activity for adrenaline junkies.

Fishing

Pontoons are not only great for towing, they are great for fishing. Pontoons offer comfortable seating perfect for sitting and waiting for a nibble on your line. You can slowly drive your boat out to your intended spot. Once you sit there for a while, the fish can acclimate to the boat’s presence. They will become bolder and come towards your boat (and your fishing hook!) Pontoons can travel in fresh or saltwater, which gives you plenty of options for types of fish to catch. You can even buy accessories specially built for pontoons, like rod holders that let you keep one line in the water while you set another line (or just give your hands a break).
